Farm Field Day

Ken Naylor, district supervisor gives a presentation on soil.

Every spring the Salt Lake Conservation District participates in the County’s Farm Field Day.  4th grade students are given the opportunity to get some hands on learning outside the classroom while visiting Butterfield Farms in Herriman. The children enjoy a day of hands on learning by rotating through educational stations that range from soils and pork production, to roping and wheat grinding.  The overall goal is to help students understand where their food comes from and why agriculture is important. For some students it is the first time they realize that food at the grocery store comes from  farms.
